Caterpillar Control

Caterpillars are the larvae of moths or butterflies. Some are known as loopers or have the word "worm" in their names, while many have names that refer to the plant they inhabit or the structure they construct (i.e. Cabbage loopers, Tomato Hornworm and Tent caterpillars). They are consider on of the most destructive insect in organic gardens, their cutting mouthparts devour many times their weight as they cause severe damage that could be detrimental to the health of the entire plant.

Moth caterpillars can infest and cause damage not only outdoors but indoors as well. Moths such cloth moths and pantry moths can infest and damage cloths, carpets and grains/food in you pantry.

Think Preventative

Use general predators to monitor and detect infestations early. When using beneficial insects for natural organic pest control it is a good practice to be preventative.

Release predators like Trichogramma wasps for control and prevention of caterpillars and moths (indoors and outdoors). Trichogramma will work best with moth problems and they work great indoors. Trichogramma will work on clothing moths, pantry moths, Gypsy Moths, Codling Moths, Diamond Back Moths, and many more.

Trichogramma wasps, Green lacewings, and Beneficial nematodes can be used early and regularly throughout the growing seasons before you have an infestation.

Use specific lures and traps such as Pest Wizard traps (Bugs in the Pantry? & Bugs in the Closet?) to track adult populations and reduce egg laying. This helps prepare you for what to expect as the season progress and in coming years.

Neem oil (NATRIA Neem Oil and Harris Neem Oil) and Btk Sprays will kill caterpillars once ingested.
